Bangkok’s luxury furniture trail is well known: the design stores along Thonglor and Ekkamai, and the home floors of the big malls around Siam, Siam Paragon included. If you are furnishing a single home, they are a good place to start.
If you are furnishing a project — a hotel, a condominium show flat, a restaurant, a retail store, or your own furniture line — it is worth knowing how many of the upholstered pieces in those showrooms are made, and what buying from the maker directly changes.
The showroom is not always the factory
A luxury furniture showroom is a retail operation: location, lighting, styling, a sales team. Imported European brands are part of the mix, but a lot of upholstered furniture sold in Bangkok is designed or selected by the retailer and manufactured locally by an OEM/ODM factory, under the retailer’s label. That is ordinary in the trade; it is how premium furniture is made in most countries.
For a project buyer, the implication is simple: the comfort and build quality you are sitting on often come from a local workshop, and you can commission that workshop directly.
When buying direct makes sense
- You need more than a handful of matching pieces — ten lounge chairs, a lobby, several show flats
- You need specific sizes: a sofa that fits a bay window, seat heights for a restaurant, a curved piece for a lobby
- You want your own fabric or a fabric chosen for commercial wear
- You need the same piece again in a year, for a refurbishment or a second property
- You are building a furniture brand and need a manufacturer, not a retailer
When a showroom is the better choice
For one sofa for your own living room, delivered next week, a retailer is usually better: you can buy from stock, and a factory with a 10-piece minimum is the wrong fit. For one-off pieces for a private home, our sister studio Something Bespoke handles residential commissions.
What we make
Factory Source Thailand is a full-upholstery OEM/ODM manufacturer: sofas (straight, curved and sectional), lounge, barrel and swivel chairs, ottomans and poufs, and modular seating — in bouclé, velvet, linen, performance fabrics and leather. We work from your drawings or brief, build a physical sample for approval, and produce from 10 pieces per style.
Our showroom is in Wang Thonglang, north-east of Thonglor; the factory itself is in Samut Prakan, next to Bangkok. Designers and buyers can visit either by appointment to see fabrics, construction and production before ordering — see visiting our sofa factory.
Questions to ask any luxury furniture supplier
- Who manufactures this piece, and where?
- What foam density and spring system are inside?
- Can the size and fabric be changed, and what is the minimum for that?
- Will you be able to make the same piece again in two years?
- What is the lead time, measured from when?
Frequently asked questions
Do you have a store in Thonglor or Siam Paragon?
No. We are a manufacturer with a showroom in Wang Thonglang, Bangkok, and a factory in Samut Prakan, both visited by appointment. We supply brands and projects rather than retail customers.
Can you make a piece similar to one I saw in a showroom?
We manufacture to your brief or drawings. We do not copy another brand’s protected designs, but we can develop an original piece in a similar direction through our ODM service.
Do you sell single pieces?
Production starts from 10 pieces per style. For a single piece for your home, see our sister studio Something Bespoke.
